“In Colombia, many children have grown up separated from their families, often placed in institutional care.
Lumos and its partners are working to change how care is understood and delivered. They work with government, care providers, and civil society to promote family-based alternatives and strengthen support systems for families.
This work is contributing to a growing shift. Awareness is increasing around the importance of keeping children in safe, supportive family environments whenever possible.
There are early signs of change, including institutions beginning to rethink their models and national plans being developed to support family-based care.
Change is still ongoing, but the direction is becoming clearer.”

In Ecuador, in the community of Pifo, concerns around alcohol and drug use among adolescents were affecting families and communities.
Danielle Children’s Fund worked with young people to understand these challenges and develop responses together.
Through this process, adolescents co-created what is now known as the 4P Route. A practical approach to promote, prevent, protect, and support, focused on reducing substance use and strengthening wellbeing.
Young people are at the centre of how this approach is shared. They lead activities, facilitate conversations, and engage families, schools, and local organisations.
What makes this work different is not only what was created, but how. It is shaped by young people and adapted to the way their community works.
And it continues to grow through participation.

Philosophy
We support organisations with the potential to drive structural change, expanding opportunities for children and families who might otherwise not be able to fulfil their potential.
Partnerships
We work mostly with UK-registered charities aligned with our mission and values. We centre the leadership, experience and knowledge of our UK partners and their local partners in shaping the path ahead.
Grantmaking
We do not run open calls. We build partnerships by invitation, based on our research, while remaining open to organisations that meet our criteria and wish to explore collaboration.
Learning
We foster a strong network of partners and create spaces for learning and exchange, supporting collaboration, shared insight and collective progress across the Andes.

Our partners have worked alongside local and national institutions to influence policies, strengthen public responses and ensure that the realities of children, young people and families are better reflected in decision-making. Their sustained engagement has contributed to more inclusive and responsive systems in areas like education, health, and economic development.

Across the Andes, our partners have strengthened education, health and protection systems by training professionals, developing institutional capacities, improving services and expanding access. In many cases, they have also delivered directly, reaching tens of thousands of children, young people and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Developing approaches now replicated by organisations across the region
Our partners have designed and implemented scalable and replicable methodologies that respond to complex challenges in their communities. Many of these approaches are now being adopted and replicated by government and non-governmental organisations, extending their reach and influence.

Creating spaces where communities shape decisions and are heard
Our partners redefine and reimagine community participation every day. They have created spaces for co-decision among community actors, where children, young people and families can actively shape decisions that affect their lives. This work has helped ensure that communities, especially those most often excluded, are heard, valued and involved in shaping their futures.
